CRESCENDO
PRESENTS A JEWEL OF THE RENAISSANCE

Crescendo offered
a masterpiece of the Renaissance, Orlando Di Lasso’s Prophecies of the
Sibyls: 20th Century Music Foretold on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22,
2012.
Artistic Director Christine Gevert conducted Crescendo’s Vocal Ensemble of
ten singers and two recorder virtuosos, Tricia van Oers and Felicitas Eckert (an American Field Service exchange student locally and an
award-winning musician in her native Germany). Ms. Gevert played the exquisite Bennett & Bennett chamber organ, a generous recent donation to the organization.
About the program: Orlando
di Lasso’s Prophecies voices the revelations of 12 female seers, the
Sibyls of Greek and Roman mythology. Its style foreshadows the musical
tonalities of Schoenberg, Stravinsky--even jazz--as it foretells the coming of
the Divine. The program also featured works by Monteverdi, Cima and Frescobaldi.
The
concert program is available here in PDF format.
A professionally produced CD
of the concert will be available shortly on
our CD page.
About the concerts:
Both concerts were held at Trinity Church in Lime Rock at 4pm. (See our
venues page ).
As a benefit for
Crescendo, dinners following each concert were offered at the homes of six
generous Crescendo supporters including Dan Dwyer and James Montanari, Beth and
John Isler, Elaine La Roche, Tom and Sarah Morrison, Helen and Anthony Scoville
and Arete Warren.
