MORE About Crescendo:
Crescendo's
Board of Directors recently
defined a number of Core Values of the organization. We're
happy to share them, because we recognize that they say much about
what kind of organization we are, and what we hope to accomplish:
-
Cultivating in amateur and processional musicians and audiences
a love for choral masterworks and instrumental chamber music,
particularly (but not exclusively) the Baroque.
-
Cultivating repertoire that is both excellent and out of the
ordinary -- including rarely performed master pieces of the
Renaissance and Baroque -- as well as other eras -- and works
with both European and Latin American/Hispanic roots.
-
Engaging in projects that bring together Early and Contemporary
music in an innovative way.
-
Offering performance and
training
opportunities for community members and professionals.
-
Achieving a high level of performance by engaging top-level
professionals along with amateurs, and by offering the amateur
musicians a high level of training. The orchestra and
processional soloists play and
important role in this, as well as (semi-)professional section
leaders and hired chorus singers; and also a rehearsal style
that offers education beyond just learning the notes; finally,
the workshops and master classes that are coordinated with our
programming.
-
Providing programs that integrate music in a historical context,
by the repertoire choice, commentary (written and lectured),
performance practice (use of period instruments, or instruments
that the works were originally written for, tuning systems,
casting, staging, etc.); and on a secondary level by integrating
other disciplines: poetry, image, dance, drama
(acting/narration) and multi-media technology.
-
Offering to our community concerts and classes mainly (but not
exclusively) in the off-season.
-
Strengthening in our choral singers the technical ability to
sing, their knowledge of repertoire, their understanding of
music (formal analysis), style and the historical context and
significance of the repertoire. Encouraging and supporting
their musical growth, regardless of age.
-
Offering for amateurs opportunities to join in playing
instrumental music in an ensemble, and being coached by
excellent teachers in voice, wind, string instruments and
keyboards, particularly in the Baroque style.
-
Reaching out to the
younger generation, to involve them actively in our programs
by offering them performing opportunities, scholarships for
workshops and master classes, and school outreach.
-
Involving our audiences in the performances by detailed program
notes, audience participation (singing), bringing the music as
close as possible to the audience (staging), talks and
commentaries in the concerts.
-
Collaborating with other cultural
organizations and supporting the activities of other musical
organizations of the region to raise the level of music
offerings and opportunities, rather than competing with them.
